$500 price drop on the Nikon D700?

Nikon Rumors believes there will be a $500 price drop on the Nikon D700 in March. I will be keeping an eye on retailer prices and if I see a price shift will report it immediately here. I would not be at all suprised if the price does come down. A year ago, the price was hovering down around $2,249. Then the price shot up to full retail, $2699 following the Japanese earthquake (and recent maneuvers by Nikon to ensure price consistency). I like the D700 better than the Canon 5d Mark II but it's not $500 or $600 better. If the price does come down around $2,199, that will be a good deal. The D700 is an excellent camera- I would take reliable autofocus and faster frames per second over higher megapixels anyday.
