This is a bit of a non-story. I've been using Gmail in China since Gmail began and have seen no slow down or disruption at all. so.

It may be different in Beijing or Shanghai.

I don't use Gmail much myself so I can't speak from firsthand experience. Anecdotally, I've heard of slow service recently in Shanghai. What I've been struck by is the amount of interference over the last two weeks against VPN access... this is something I haven't seen for quite some time. It is still easy to leap over the firewall but not without a few annoyances along the way.
