For the past week, I've been torn about a decision. I would like to post a few photos from the World Naked Bike Ride on Earth Day in San Francisco but I am also cognizant of the fact the Google Adsense takes punitive action against "mature content" -undefined- on sites where its ads appear (or on sites where its bots believe "mature content" may appear). Since Google has been able to obtain a near monopoly on web advertising, this means that many bloggers seeking to publish any content showing a revealing image of a human body, whether as part of a news story, fine art or otherwise, risks losing out on a prime revenue source that has no direct equivalent. If that sexy rag known as the San Francisco Chronicle relied on Adsense for its revenue, it could be in trouble!
Puritanism against "mature" and offensive content has led Google to target websites publishing information related to advertising, social issues or public health.
